3. Do I have to be a citizen?
Yes, you must be a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United State with a valid social security number.
4. Do I need to have taken any prerequisite classes before getting into the program?
No, you do not need to have taken any prerequisite classes before entering the program, but you do need to be prepared to take college level courses, including ENG101, MAT120, and CRE101.
5. Do I need to take a test to get into the program?
If you have completed all general education courses and are ready to take nursing courses you must take the Nurse Entrance Test (NET) test. If you have not completed all general education courses you will not be required to submit the NET scores in the application.
6. What if I’ve already completed all of my nursing prerequisites? Will I be placed in an advanced placement group?
The Selection Committee will not be accepting placement in 2nd or 3rd year of the BNFP. We will only accept students who have:

Applicants with little or none general education college courses completed.

Applicants who are ready for college level courses

Applicants with CNA or LPN courses completed but have no general education courses completed.
Once placed, the Fellow must proceed in his or her assigned cohort and cannot take courses out of order and cannot drop back and repeat courses while remaining a Fellow.
7. What do you mean by attending classes "fulltime?"
In order to attend the program, students need to be able to take classes between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
8. Does the program pay for my tuition?
The student is responsible for all individual program costs, including tuition, books, uniforms, immunizations and finger printing.
9. How will I know if I’m accepted into the program?
You will receive a letter by mail notifying you of acceptance or non-acceptance into the program.
10. What are retention meetings and will I be required to attend them?
These sessions will instruct the students on strategies to solve personal and family problems, learn new study skills and time management techniques, and how to maximize their nursing profession opportunities. All students in the program are required to attend all retention meetings.
11. Where do I submit my application?
Bring your application and all other completed documents in a 9"x12" envelope to SMCC's Student Enrollment Services Building, and place in the Information Center Application Collection Box.

12. What is the estimated cost of the program?
The estimated cost of the program for a Maricopa County resident student is $5,765 (tuition, courses, fees), plus books (approximately $2,200.00), health and safety requirements ($310), and clinical supplies and uniforms ($250).
13. What type of financial assistance can I receive?
All students who are applying for the BNFP must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and general scholarships every academic year.
